Once Again: It's Okay for JWs to Rip-Off Non-JWs
by Iown Mylife intoday i heard from the owner of a small restaurant, the story of how a brother in a local congregation ripped him off for thousands.
the restaurant owner is not a jw but totally familiar with the cult, as his mother is a long-time baptized sister.
she asked him to hire this wonderful brother from her congregation to do construction work he needed at his house.

My daughter was 14 and was just trying to fit in and make friends with the little snots I said she should be friends with, while denying her association with kids at school she really liked.
The hardships she lives with now are all my fault.

@dazed - We're here in n. GA - this happened in one of the Spanish congs. Oubliette, i heard this morning, they are in the process of suing and that's another thing - he has lost so much money by having to close the restaurant frequently to deal with the attorney, etc.
One big item the guy messed up was the re-roofing. He was supposed to put on a whole new roof but didn't take off the old one the right way. With the winter we've had, the entire house is getting damaged by the leaks. He says there are waves in the roofing you can see from the street. He says the elders have told his mother that she should be preventing the suit, and solve the problem by talking. The elders also said the Brother has stated that he didn't do anything wrong so there shouldn't be any problem. But the restaurant owner and his dad are not JW so they can't rope them in directly. They just continue to work on the mother hammer and tongs.
My husband and I were ripped off or defrauded several times over the years we were in. It's hard to be nice brothers and sisters together and at the same time be on your guard and suspicious. We were so stupid, it wasn't hard to take advantage of us. Like dontcallmeshirley says, we trusted that indoctrination about how we were in a spiritual community, and so concerned about not sullying Jehovah's name. Every time we tried to tell the elders about a situation we were told to suck it up and shut up, so we wouldn't be throwing mud on Jehovah's name.
Years ago we knew several brothers working their own little corners of home repair/construction biz, who needed that deposit to live on. They preferred to work for JWs, knowing there was little danger of getting sued. This one elder we knew and thought was a terrific person, would start work replacing windows. Leave the job half done and go sell another job and start it up, to get the deposit on that job. Then never finish the first one, and so on.

Today I heard from the owner of a small restaurant, the story of how a Brother in a local congregation ripped him off for thousands. The restaurant owner is not a JW but totally familiar with the cult, as his mother is a long-time baptized sister. She asked him to hire this wonderful Brother from her congregation to do construction work he needed at his house. The Brother asked for a lot of the money up front. The mother kept telling him he could trust the Brother totally, "...just do what he says, you won't regret it."
The job was priced very expensive, but the work turned out shoddy and with the cheapest cruddy materials to be found. While the job was going on, the Brother would send his workers to the restaurant to get meals to go, and told the workers not to pay. Just to tell the owner that he would pay later - of course, he never paid for the food which amounted to several hundred dollars.
The restaurant owner said, at every problem and glitch, his mother begged him to keep going along and not to worry. He says now, they are in a terrible fix because of this Brother, who "acts like he's second to God when he walks into the KH with his wife and children."
Meanwhile, the mother is still an active JW, but now is just a little hurt and puzzled and says she can't believe what the Brother did. She's been in the hospital with some kind of illness lately. It's probably not related to all the upset and upheaval in the family as a result of this thief she recommended.

Enjoyable topic, got me to thinking. Everyone has great ideas for titles here. Mine is "Gullible's Travels - A Thirty Year Sojurn In Cult-Induced Self-Deceit."

Dizernment (discernment) - one convention made that the WORD for three days. Every single talk included it and pronounced it with a Z, at least a million times.
Also the phrase Let's stand and sing as we TRANSITION to the Watchtower study. oh ICK!

If you think child abusers can simply repent and/or be rehabilitated....
by iamwhoiam in...then you need to educate yourself more.
here is a good place to start.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iet3-kuvl5y.

A pedophile will not repent because a pedophile is a sociopath. A person who is sociopathic does not recognize authority any higher than themselves. They think if they want to do something, then it's the right thing to do. Therefore if they want to do something it is right, not wrong, so there would never be any reason to repent of anything.
Remember that Mary Kay Latourneau woman who was a teacher who had sex with a student, and she was in jail for it. Sometime later she was being interviewed and the question was about whether she regretted her actions. People thought from her answer that she was sorry about the whole mess. But I heard the phrase she used. She didn't actually say she was sorry. What she said was, that she knew people thought she had done the wrong thing. That was it for saying she was sorry!
Pedophiles do not consider that there is anything wrong with molesting children. They think non-pedophiles are wrong for trying to stop them. There is NO rehabilitation for pedophiles.
